Equality & S.E.N.D. Policy
Equality Policy
All children in my care are given the opportunity to reach their full potential. This may mean adapting an activity to the child's ability and stage of development, providing additional resources, or giving one child more support and/or attention during a particular activity or routine. Every child is given the chance to play with all toys, subject to health & safety for the under three's. No toy is just for boys, or just for girls. I try to ensure the toys reflect positive images of children and people from different cultures, or with different abilities.
No child shall be discriminated against in any way, whether for their skin colour, religion, gender, culture or ability. I shall challenge any remarks I feel are inappropriate.
I encourage children in my care to learn more about their own culture and/or religion, and to find out about the cultures and religious beliefs of others. We do this in a fun way, such as through sharing books, or doing colouring sheets, cooking and eating food from around the world, and celebrating special festivals such as Rosh Hashanah, Eid, Diwali and Chinese New Year.
Parents are also encouraged to share with us any festivals, special occasions or items which may enhance the children's understanding and learning.
All children are encouraged to develop a healthy respect of each other's differences, and value everyone as an individual.
S.E.N.D.
(Special Educational Needs & Disabilities)
I am committed to providing an inclusive setting and providing equal opportunities for all children and I have high aspirations for all children in my care.
My policies and practice are inline with the EYFS 2014 and the Equalities Act 2010.
I am committed to early intervention and the Early Support principles (www.gov.uk/help-for-disabled-child/early-support-programme) - Children’s voices and that of their families are honoured to allow them to provide opportunities to influence change.
I shall work closely with parents to listen to their views so as to build on children's previous experiences, understanding, knowledge and skills to provide opportunities to develop in the seven areas of learning and I shall observe and monitor individual children's progress and if a child appears not to be making progress either generally or in a specific aspect of learning then I will present them with different opportunities, or use alternative ways of learning.
I will follow the graduated approach set out in the Department for Education SEND Code of Practice to ensure every child receives the best possible care, learning and development. There will be an established method for recording agreed outcomes of assessment and communicating the outcomes to those involved, especially parents. Settings will support Education Health and Care Needs Assessment and Education Health and Care plans.
I will ensure I always have a copy of the most recent Code of Practice which will be made available to all parents if they wish to see it.
If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, your child's development or inclusion, please do not hesitate to ask me.
