Medication Policies & Procedures
Medication Policy
I am happy to give your child non-prescribed medicine such as Calpol, cough mixture or teething granules but only if you have signed a permission form for me to do so. You must also provide the medication and ensure it is labelled with your child's name. This medication will be stored safely, and checked to ensure it is still within its expiry date. I have had training to help a child with their inhaler, and have also had epi-pen training. My first-aid training shall be regularly updated.
All medicine given to me to administer must be in its original bottle/container and not decanted. It must have the manufacturers guidelines on it, along with any details from the doctor/pharmacy if it is a prescribed medicine.
I record all medication administered and will require a parental signature when you come to collect your child.
If your child needs to take medicine prescribed by a doctor you shall need to fill in another permission form. In some cases a child on antibiotics will be unable to attend for 2-3 days to help prevent the spread of infection among the other children in my care.
It is vital you inform me if your child has had any medication before they arrive into my care. I will need to know what they had and why they had it, the dose, and the time it was administered.
Sick Child Policy and Procedure
I appreciate as a working parent you need to be able to go to work, however if your child is unwell they will be better cared for in their own home by a parent. I'm happy to care for children with minor coughs and colds, but will not care for any child that is very unwell, infectious or running a high temperature. I have to go out each day to school and pre-school, and must consider the welfare of all the children in my care.
Please do not bring your child if they have had sickness or diarrhoea in the past 48 hours.
If your child becomes ill whilst in my care, I will make them as comfortable as possible, reassure them, and, if need be, isolate them from the other children. I will contact you immediately and will continue to care for them until your arrival.
Childminder Sickness Policy
I know you require a reliable childminder and shall endeavour to work all my contracted hours. I will happily continue to work with a minor cough or cold, but will not work if I have had sickness or diarrhoea in the past 48 hours, or if I have anything highly infectious. Continuing to work shall only spread the germs further and I would be unable to give your child the care they deserve. I will not charge you for the days I am unable to work, and can provide you with a list of local childminders who may be able to provide emergency care.
In Case of Emergency Procedure
If a reason arose where I was unable to look after your child I would contact you immediately and in most cases be able to await your arrival. However, in some emergencies this may be impossible. If this ever happened, I will have to contact another trusted and safe adult to come and provide emergency care, until you arrive to collect your child. An envelope will be pinned to the notice board with contact details on, I shall also carry emergency contact details with me.
Thankfully scenarios that will prevent me from contacting you myself are very rare, and hopefully there is no need for this procedure to be put in practice.
If you have any queries about any of these policies or procedures please discuss with me.
